Year 1

Hello and welcome to the Year 1 web page.  We hope you had a wonderful summer and are now ready for a term packed full of fun and learning.

 

General Information

The teachers for this year are Mrs Watts and Mrs Smith and they are supported in the classroom by Mrs Brown (HLTA) and Mrs Said (TA).

 

School starts at 8:55am and finishes at 3:30pm.  Lunch time is from 12 until 1:15.  The children have milk and snack during the morning.  They can choose from a range of healthy fruit and vegetables.  The cost per child per half term is £5.

 

PE and Games are on Thursday and Friday, please ensure your child has a kit in school which includes the following items clearly labelled.

t-shirt, shorts/leggings/tracksuit bottoms/ trainers.

 

Forest School

Throughout the year the children will take part in the Forest School programme run by Mrs Karen Brown.  Permission letters and information will be sent home.  The children will be split into five groups and each group will have five Forest Schools sessions this year.  The first group starts on Friday 29th September.  

 

Our topic this term is Superheroes and we will be teaching all the skills through that theme.  If you have any good ideas, books, artefacts related to the topic please let us know.

W/C Monday 06th November

This week we are learning about Place value.  We will be playing a variety of games to break numbers down into tens and units.  We will be ordering numbers, counting in tens and ones, adding amounts to rods of ten as well as practising our Learn It's which are doubling numbers to 10 +10, and number bonds to 10.

In Literacy our book this week is Charlie's superhero Underpants.  We are learning about newspaper reports and writing descriptions of lost items. 

In the Finger Gym our physical tasks will enable the children to practise a range of skills in order to strengthen fingers and increase dexterity.  The tasks this week Tens and Units padlocks and threading beads into colanders and balancing balls on tees.  As part of Humanities we are writing questions and interviewing different members of staff to find out what they do and who works the hardest.  In Science and Technology we continue to learn about ourselves and what makes us SUPER!!  We are learning about our senses.  This week we are looking at the sense of touch. 

We have a lot of creative tasks which the children help us plan during COOL Challenges. This week we are writing speech bubbles for ourselves and funny animals, RM Easimaths, designing and making our own Superhero underpants.
