Welcome to Year 2!
Croeso i Blwyddyn 2!
Teachers: Mr Parsons and Miss Peters
Teaching Assistants: Mrs Griffiths, Mrs Edmonds and Mrs Summers.
As part of our new daily exercise experiment we will be taking part in some form of exercise every morning. As such the children will not have the traditional Games and PE slots that were previously used. Please could you ensure that your child still has suitable footwear and clothing available in school in order for them to take part. We have been trying different types of exercise each week. So far we have covered circuit training, Zumba, jogging, walking a mile each day and, most recently, Tae Kwon Do! Thank you for your support in this; both staff and children are feeling the benefits already.
Reading folders will be sent home containing a reading book and a reading record. There will be a sticker indicating which day the folder needs to be returned on the front of the folder (this will vary from child to child) . Children are listened to and books changed weekly. The children will receive spellings on a Friday to be tested the following Friday.
Forest Farm sessions take place on a Wednesday afternoon. The children have been put into four groups and will therefore visit the forest every four weeks. Our aim in doing so is to give the children a better appreciation of the seasonal changes in nature.
The Big Maths Test will take place on Friday mornings.
Our topic for the first Summer Term will be Growing Things. We have already made a brilliant start to this with our sunflower seeds in Enterprise Week and our beanstalks in STEM Week so look forward to developing our green fingers further! Thank you to all the parents who came in and supported our efforts in the after school exhibitions for Enterprise and STEM week. Thank you also for the response to the Family Album projects. The results have been incredible and we are slowly letting every child deliver their projects to the class.
Mr Parsons is in Bordeaux!
He is visiting our partner school in France from the 10th to the 14th October - watch out for his photos!
We are aware that some parents are curious about the National tests that the children will have to undergo for the first time in May. They consist of one reading comprehension test, one maths procedural test (general mathematics) and one maths reasoning test (problem solving). These are obviously subjects that we already teach in school and this half term we have been doing a little extra work on them; mainly so that the children are not surprised by the format of the tests.
We want the children to enjoy their Easter break and don't wish to exert any extra work on them, however we are aware that some parents would like to look at sample papers. If you want to do a little bit of work with your child or simply view them for your own information then they are available online.
